The Vigilant Heart Charitable Society (VHCS) is "a non-governmental" and not-for-profit charitable trust registered in 2007 in the Federal Republic of Nigeria to cater for orphans, abandoned and underprivileged children.
Vigilant Heart Charitable Society (VHCS) was established when Mrs. Maria Osawemen got inspiration to support and care for motherless, orphans and abandoned children.
She was inspired to take up this enormous responsibility in 1999 when the United Nations Women’s Guild (UNWG) in Nigeria, whose objectives include alleviation of the sufferings of the disadvantaged especially women and children, suspended some critical activities in Lagos State.
The Guild provided succor for children and destitute at the Majidun Rehabilitation Centre, Ikorodu, the Corrective Centre, Remand Home, Girls’ Approved School, Idi-Araba, Transit Village for Motherless Children, Idi-Araba.
Maria Osawemen, who had been an Associate Member of the Guild, took up the challenge of feeding, clothing and caring for the motherless and abandoned children in those centres.
Today VHCS is active on a number of fronts.
To create a safe and caring environment for the comprehensive development of orphans and abandoned children, promote formal education for indigent and underprivileged children as well as work projects that protect children against numerous ills and vicissitudes in the society.
Spreading the hidden power of optimism.
